Obituary for Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Hodnett, Sr.

Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Hodnett, Sr., 92, of Martinsville, VA passed away Monday, March, 5, 2018. He was born January 2, 1926 in Henry County, VA to the late, Lucy Faith Weaver Hodnett and Babe Clayton Hodnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Elizabeth Manning Hodnett; sister, Virginia Hodnett Shoemaker; and brothers, Randolph Hodnett and Jack Hodnett.

Mr. Hodnett was a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and European African Middle Eastern Theatre. He worked for Roy Hodnett for FFV Trucking Coompany, Virginia-Carolina Trucking, RP Thomas, and Roy Stone.

He is survived by his daughters, Martha H. Evans (Mike) of Martinsville, June Durand (Ronnie) of Martinsville, and Cathy Smith (Jerome) of Martinsville; son, Benjamin F. “Ben” Hodnett, Jr. (Karen) of Smith Mountain Lake; step-daughters, Linda H. Crabtree (Bill) of Collinsville, Tempest Hammock (Alfred) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Nancy Martin (Ronnie) of Stanleytown, VA, Rhonda Bower (Dwight) of Bassett, VA, and Janice Hollandsworth (Gary) of Ridgeway, VA; step-son, Fred Plott (Victoria). Also surviving are his sisters, Dorothy Perdue of Spencer, Annie Culler of Martinsville, and Barbara Nelson of Spencer; brothers, Curtis Hodnett, Gerald Hodnett, and Phillip Hodnett, all of Martinsville, twenty-four grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2018 at Chatham Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Hatfield officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service Friday March 9, 2018 at the church and other times at the home of his daughter, Martha Evans, 1529 Kenmar Dr., Martinsville, VA 24112. Entombment will follow the service at Roselawn Abbey.

Memorial donations may be made to Chatham Heights Baptist Church, 1235 Chatham Heights Road, Martinsville, VA 24112.
