Rae Smith Newton, age 90 of Dry Fork, VA passed away Friday, February 15, 2019 at her residence. She was born February 14, 1929 in Eden, NC to the late Ernest Gilmore Smith and the late Beatrice Dent Smith. Rae was married to the late Fluno “Dye” Newton. She was a member of Shermont Baptist Church. She retired from Dan River Mills after 42 years of service.
Mrs. Newton is survived by a daughter Judy Rae Thomas of Eden, NC; 2 sons, Fluno “Gabby” Newton, Jr. of Eden, NC and Roger Dale Newton of Dry Fork, VA; 2 sisters; 3 brothers; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2019 at Norris Funeral Services, Inc., West End Chapel, 511 Church Ave., Danville, VA 24541 with Pastor Mark Ingram officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 12:30 p.m. till 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2019 at Norris funeral Services, Inc., West End Chapel prior to the funeral service and other times at the residence.
