Obituary for James Douglas Carter

On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, James (Jami) Douglas Carter Jr., passed away at the young age of 48. He was fortunate enough to pass at home after an unexpected diagnosis of stage four melanoma.

Jami was born on March 29, 1971 in Danville, VA to James Douglas Carter Sr. and Sandra (Shanaberger) Carter of 15240 Callands Road, Callands, Virginia. On October 27, 2018, he married Jennifer M. Carter of 1103 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, Virginia. Jami consistently expressed how lucky he was to find Jennifer, his better half. He was also in love and very proud of his son, James Dakota Carter (Cody). Jami and Cody both enjoyed attending concerts and eating oysters by the bushel.

Jami enjoyed entrepreneurship and owning River City Mowing Company. He took pride in his work and cherished his customers, of whom most became more like close friends or extended family.

Jami’s life was so much more than what can be written down in a few short paragraphs, or even on 1,000 pages. His story is complex and more valuable than what the traditional obituary can offer. There are hundreds of stories to tell, choices to explain, questions to ask, and memories to be cherished. Jami was born gifted like no other. His intelligence was indescribable. The landscape of Jami’s life is massive. Everything he did, he did it fiercely. His presence will forever be in the hearts of those that loved him.

“There will come a time when you believe everything is finished; that will be the beginning.” Louis L’Amour

Jami is survived by his wife (Jennifer), son (Cody), his best four-legged friend (Tinkerbell), mother and father (Doug and Sandra), mother in law (Marie), sister (Ashlee), brother in law (Matt), nephews (Cooper and Carter), a niece (Vanessa), and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A visitation will be held Saturday, August 31, 2019, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Norris Funeral Services’ Mt Hermon Chapel.
