Obituary for Bennie Louisa Montgomery

Bennie Louisa Weldon Montgomery went home to her lord and savior on Thursday May 2, 2019 at the age of 60. She was born in Webster County Kentucky on November 27, 1958 to the late Henry James Weldon and Dorothadean Weldon.

She received her Registered Nurse (RN) Diploma from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1987, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University, and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. She had a great love and passion for reading and education. She traveled across the country sharing her knowledge and compassion with nurses and other medical professionals. She served many roles during her nursing career, from bedside caregiver, educator, mentor, and executive.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to sing and had the voice of an angel. She loved to cook and bake and was an avid recipe collector. She loved to read and was especially fond of classic literature.
She is survived by her daughters, Amanda Keith and husband Brian, and Jasmine Montgomery, as well as their father David Montgomery. Her brother, Henry Weldon, and three sisters, Emily Willis, Mary Baker and husband Larry, and Martha Standiford and husband Steve. She is also survived by 5 beautiful grandchildren that she adored, Brandy Frazier, Brittney Frazier, Jacob Porter, Megan Porter, and Kailynn Stone.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, as well as her loving grandmother and namesake, Bennie Jewel Weldon. She was also predeceased by her greatest friend and soulmate, Virgil Dean Poppe.

She did not wish to have a service and requested that her family and friends gather to remember and share the good memories they had with her. The family will receive friends and family on Saturday May 4, 2019 at the residence of her daughter, Amanda Keith, 745 Inman Rd Danville VA 24541.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bennie’s memory to Reach Out and Read.
Reach Out and Read is dedicated to making literacy part of children's doctor visits. Partnering with thousands of medical professionals across all 50 states, the nonprofit works to incorporate children's books and advice to parents about the importance of reading out loud into kids' check-ups.
