Obituary for William Ray Kennedy

William ‘Bill’ Kennedy, age 87, of Martinsville, VA died at King’s Grant Retirement Community on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. He is survived by his daughter Cindy Reedy (Gary) of Atlanta, GA; son, Dan Kennedy (and the late Julie) of Greensboro, NC, and five grandchildren, Katie Irene Reedy, Stephanie Reedy, Andrew Kennedy, Kelly Kennedy and Matthew Kennedy. He is also survived by sister-in-law Eva Deaton (and the late Herman) of Laurinburg, NC; sister- and brother-in-law Donna and Charles Fulp of Winston-Salem, NC; and great nieces Holly Fulp and Heidi Fulp.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Irene Biggs Kennedy and his parents, William Floyd Kennedy and Leona Kennedy of Thomasville, NC.

Bill was a graduate of Hasty High School and served in the US Army 61st Infantry during the Korean War. Following discharge, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Furniture Manufacturing and Management in 1958 from NC State University. He began his career with Stanley Furniture Company then joined Pulaski Furniture Company where he remained until his retirement as Executive Vice-President of Manufacturing in 1994. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville and was active in various civic and development organizations in Martinsville and Henry County. Additionally, he was a member of the Sunnyside Retirement Community Board of Directors and a charter member of the Fairy Stone Squares Western Square Dance Club in Martinsville.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Collinsville with Pastor Larry Cheek officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service, from 11:00-11:30am at the church. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, VA. Donations may be made in his memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 18981 Jeb Stuart Drive, Stuart, VA 24171.
