Obituary for Robert James McLachlan

Robert James McLachlan, 88 of Martinsville, VA passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at King’s Grant Retirement. He was born to the late Willard and Lucille McLachlan.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Jackie of 66 years.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his two sons, Bob Jr. and wife Deborah of Chattanooga, TN, and Bill and wife Cathy of Williamsburg, VA, five granddaughters, Anne Butler and husband Jared of Chattanooga, TN, Kaki McLachlan of Fairfield, CA, Taylor Shapero and husband Samuel of Atlanta, GA, Kathleen Geddy and husband Cole, and Mary Paige McLachlan of Charlottesville, VA, and one great granddaughter, Madeleine Shapero.

Bob was born in Schenectady, NY on February 15, 1929. He earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force during the Korean War. Mac worked as a Sr. Research Engineer for DuPont for over 30 years.
Bob served as President of the Martinsville Exchange club, and served on the Martinsville Mental Health board and Adult daycare. He served three times as an international delegate for Contact Helpline International, and won the Paulette Nichols Award for serving over 6,000 hours as a volunteer. Bob was appointed by the governor to the board of trustees of the AL Philpott Manufacturing Partnership. Bob was very supportive of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Martinsville serving as elder, teacher, deacon, youth leader and sponsor of Vietnam War refugees.

Mac enjoyed bowling, golfing, and traveling.

The visitation will be held at King’s Grant, on Friday July 14, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. A private family funeral service will be held at a later date.
