Obituary for Mary Eizabeth "Betty" Luse Hatfield

Mary Elizabeth Betty Luse Hatfield, 89, of Martinsville, VA passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 peacefully at King’s Grant. She was born on January 7, 1928 in Flora, IL to the late Ruth N. Luse and George Luse. In addition to his parents he preceded in death by several brothers.

Mrs. Hatfield graduated from University of Illinois in 1948; she was later employed by Lang-Kohn. Following her husband to New York, she became a life-long volunteer for her church, hospital, and community. The Hatfields retired to Smith Mountain Lake, VA in 1984 and realized a dream of living on a lake. She enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and square dancing. Mrs. Hatfield cofounded the Lake Quilters Guild and was a member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and choir.

She is survived by her husband Gary Hatfield of 68 years, sons, David Hatfield and Bruce Harvard Hatfield of Beacon, NY, sister, Marjorie Luse Bice of Bartlesville, OK. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, one special nephew Robert C. Luse and Sandra of Lynchburg, VA.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017 at King’s Grant in Martinsville, VA with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating.
