Obituary for James Edward Haywood

James Edward Haywood, 86, of 212 Cheryl Dr., Danville, Va. passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Kindred Hospital, Greensboro, NC. He was born June 26, 1930, in Charlotte, NC to the late Clydie Wright Haywood and the late Ocie H. Haywood. Mr. Haywood served in the U.S. Navy for four years and worked for many years as a boiler operator for P. Lorillard Tobacco Co. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, rock collector and a lover of animals.

He was first married to Barbara Duffer Haywood and is survived by his loving second wife, Lois Haywood of the residence. He is also survived by a daughter, Lynn Powell of Brosville, two sisters, Jeanette Rakes and Doris Reid, as well as a granddaughter, Amanda Merricks of Danville and a great-granddaughter, Harper Merricks.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Haywood was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

A celebration of life service filled with precious memories will be begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, with Rev. James Albert officiating. The family will be there at 1:15 if anyone would like to visit with them. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 212 Cheryl Drive, Danville, Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to your church of choice or favorite charity in his honor and memory.
