Obituary for Evelyn Minter Smith

Evelyn Minter Smith, 91, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017. She was born on November 23, 1925 in Henry County, VA to the late Harvey Eugene Minter and Essie Dove Minter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Smith; sisters, Lily Moore Ashby, Florence Minter, Bessie Keatts, and Victoria Goggins; and brothers, James Ronnie Minter, Cliffton R. Minter, Russell L. Minter, and D. Eugene Minter.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church for 73 years where she served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on numerous committees. She retired from Fieldcrest Mills after 15 years as a design clerk. She was a lifetime member of the Garden Club of Virginia.

She is survived by her son, Rodney Allen Smith and wife, Sally Ehrlich Smith of Lake Worth, FL; grandchildren, Stratton Smith of Charlotte, NC, Hilarie Baber of Roanoke, VA, Brett Allen Smith of Tel Aviv, Israel, Drew Smith Mulligan of Falls Church, VA, and Sydney Ann Smith of Madison, WI; and great-grandchild, Bailey Baber.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Chatham Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Hatfield officiating. Visitation will be held after the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chatham Heights Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 1235 Chatham Rd., Martinsville, VA 24112.

Norris Funeral Services, Inc. & Crematory of Martinsville, VA will be serving the Smith family.
