Obituary for Daphine Widener Hall Hanks

Daphine Widener Hall Hanks, 87, formerly of 1832 Crane Road, Danville, Va., passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017, at Sovah Health Danville. She was born March 20, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, Va. to the late Carrie Virginia Biggs Widener and the late Roy Glenford Widener. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence Hall, her husband, Norman Ray Hanks, and her son, Larry David Hall. Mrs. Hanks retired following 38 years of service in the Danville Public Schools, finishing as the principal of Forest Hills Elementary. She was a member of Shermont Baptist Church, and shared her love of music by playing piano for many local congregations.
Mrs. Hanks is survived by her grandchildren, Roy Edsel Hall and Tate Virginia Hall Deal.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 29, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Highland Burial Park, with Rev. Ryan Riley officiating.
