Obituary for Cornelia Cobler Taylor

Cornelia Taylor, 91, a former resident of the Figsboro community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Tallassee Health and Rehab in Tallassee, Alabama.

Cornelia was born on December 16, 1926 in Franklin County to the late Susie Richardson Cobler and Harold Jackson Cobler. Cornelia and her husband, Archie, relocated to Lake Martin, Alabama in September of 2003 due to health problems. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William Archie Taylor; her only son, William Alfred Taylor; and her brother, Robert Cobler.

While she started her working career with E.I DuPont, and stopped to raise her family, she later retired from Lacy Manufacturing Company with 20 years of service. For many years, she worked in the school cafeteria of Figsboro Elementary School being one of the first employees hired when the school was built. Her job at the school was a great joy to her as she often commented it was like a family reunion each day because she knew most of the children and their families. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she taught 3rd and 4th graders in Sunday school, helped with Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Golden Club. She also enjoyed quilting with many of her lifelong friends in the Pleasant Valley Quilting Club.

She leaves to cherish her love and memory, Jackie and Reuben Thornton of Eclectic, Alabama. She is also survived by her sister, Maxine C. Bondurant of Snow Creek and many nieces and nephews. She has enjoyed the love of Reuben’s family who adopted Cornelia and Archie upon their arrival to Alabama and lovingly named her Mrs. Corney. Her Alabama family includes Marion Pratt Nolan, a resident of Tallassee Health and Rehab; Sean and Christine Taylor and their children, Charlie and Miss Rosie of Dunwoody, Georgia and Jim Thornton and his children, Kirby and Taylor of Pintlala, Alabama and Wesley and Justin Breal and their children, Ashton and Everly of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Rube Thornton, Jr. of Montgomery, Alabama. The family expresses gratitude to the staff of Tallassee Health and Rehab and Community Hospice care. Both organizations have provided gentle and loving care to Cornelia.

A graveside service will be held at 11:15 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Roselawn Burial Park with the Reverend James C. Steele of Trinity Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children’s Harbor, One Our Children’s Highway, and Eclectic, AL, 36024 or by visiting or to Trinity Baptist Church, 2370 Snow Creek Road, Martinsville, VA 24112.
